Sweet summer greetings to you. I am writing this newsletter from an eco-community in southern Spain, sat under a tree outside a yurt, surrounded by beautiful flowers, an abundant veggie garden, bird call, insect chatter and a babbling stream. Needless to say, yes, I am in bliss. ;) I am on a short trip around southern Spain and Morocco at the moment, experiencing more quirks of travelling raw (see more below) and meeting many wonderful beings on the way, often living raw lifestyles quite different to my own

TRAVELLING IN THE RAW
For the last few weeks, I have been travelling around the south of Spain and the north of Africa, visiting various lovely raw places and people along the way, enjoying the sun and pretending I can still speak French and Spanish ;). Never once have I gone short of food, eaten something I rather wouldn't as there is nothing else available or felt deprived. This has been a wonderful travelling experience for me in this regard and I wanted to share here three of the main tips that have aided the success of this trip:
1. Get a hire car.
WOW. This has been such a revelation to me. I am used to living quite simply I usually cycle most places or use public transport, so hiring a car was a new experience for me and I have really appreciated it. Having a vehicle to keep all the goods in, rather than trying to cram them into an already bulging backpack and carry them around with me in the heat and confusion of foreign public transport systems is SUCH a blessing. It permits carrying lots of produce at once, a much vaster range of things and a safe place to store them (though do try to park in the shade if possible). I love it :) a note of caution don't get fooled by the comfort of having a car into forgetting your own limits for example, purchasing a 10lb watermelon on the day you are due to return the car is not necessarily very wise ;).
2. Carry some basic kitchen utensils.
Carrying some useful essentials with you like a plate/bowl, sharp knife, cutlery and grater, will mean you are always in a position to make up a meal for yourself, wherever you are. This is very liberating and easy to manage you don't even need to take equipment with you from home, just buy something simple when you arrive and perhaps leave it with a new friend on your departure :).
3. Have no agenda and think local.
Try not to travel in fear of not having enough/being able to find enough to eat and so on. Being attached to this fear will keep you trapped in it try to go with the flow and rely on local knowledge to guide your food choices. Having no agenda in this way and avoiding making demands about exactly which raw foods you are willing to consume will help you to let go of hang-ups, flow more with your journey, experience new foods and hopefully even find places to eat straight from the tree (location permitting). Take with you those things that you feel you cannot do without and may struggle to find elsewhere, such as goji berries, lucuma (my favourite) or green powder (very advisable when travelling, especially in places where you might not be able to get fresh juice to alkalise your system). In this way you are assured to always have these things available when you want them, as well as having something to fall back on if all else fails. :)

WATERMELON FASTING
I have just completed a spontaneous four-day watermelon fast and wanted to share a little about the experience. Up until about 10 days ago, I had never considered the idea of fasting on watermelon, but when it was mentioned to me, my whole being cried 'YES :)', so when the moment felt right, I went into it
and it has been joyous and unlike any other fast I've done before. My pattern tends to be that I get very low in energy when fasting and require a lot of rest. On this occasion, I have slowed down as usual, but to nowhere near the same degree as normal. I have found the whole experience so SATISFYING too whenever I have the impulse to consume something, the delightful answer is 'watermelon' and it feels so sweet and yummy and easy :). Watermelon fasting is not generally recommended for more than four days and it is not for everyone ( e.g. those with diabetes/hypoglycemia), so do be cautious, however, it IS great for cleansing the blood, supporting the kidneys, healing cysts, canker sores and tissue inflammation, reducing hypertension and acting as a natural diuretic.

That's all for now...so, enjoy the abundance and keep the flow going :)
All blessings,
Angela. x
