Prize: An e-book copy of Raw Success
Question: If you could speak to any of the Raw Food Pioneers of by-gone days and ask them a single question, whom would you connect to and what would you ask them?' |
| Winning Entry (picked at random):
In my research I have realized that some of the very pioneers of the raw movement, Herbert Shelton, Ann Wigmore, and Stanley Boroughs died of debilitating conditons in their health. How is it that the raw Foods lifstyle can end so badly when it is suppose to be so very very healthy. I know old age is a factor.. and systems brake down, but it seems to me that the raw foods lifestyle is suppose to prevent this kind of demise.
What happened? What was missing in the diet that their demise came about so tragically?
Looking forward to meeting you in this life time,
Suzan
CONGRATULATIONS, Suzan. WOW, youve actually pretty much hit the main message of the book Raw Success, right on the head there ;) LOL...so, I think youll get a great deal out of this prize of an e-book copy of Raw Success, which is gliding towards your inbox as I write ;) ENJOY :) Thanks to you and everyone who entered this giveaway, sharing their fascinating queries :)
Below are some of the many wonderful entries received - most question seemed to be for Ann Wigmore or Dr Norman Walker - enjoy the insights ;)
(Please note, the messages below are those
of individual contributors, are published-as-sent and are not
necessarily representative of the views of RawReform.)
------------------------
Question for Ann Wigmore--what do you think of the Green Smoothiemovement--taking your idea of blended soups, but with much higher amounts
of fruits in many cases? (I wish she was really around to read Green for
Life)! WHat do you think about the issue of palatability?
Thanks!
Sara
----------------
It would definitley be Ann Wigmore, she is THE pioneer in my eyes. There would be a lot of things I would like to ask her. I know she learned a lot of things from her grandmother. I guess if I could only ask her one thing, I would say "Did you ever thing that you would have such an impact on people, even after you are gone?"
punkin
---------------
I would love to ask any of the raw food pioneers -- maybe Ann Wigmore would be at the top of the list -- What would you feed children to ensure optimal development (i.e., healthy growth, teeth, bone structures)? I don't know if any of these pioneers were parents. I thought that Ann Wigmore had goat milk, when available, as a child. Would she recommend it? The research of Dr. Weston Price indicates how important raw milk, butter, etc. is for our health, when he examined cultures around the world which were eating a traditional, unprocessed diet. I have heard of several vegan, mostly/100% raw children developing dental problems. There doesn't seem to be much information out there on the raw diet for children.
Thanks so much!
Kathleen
-----------------
I would choose to speak with Dr. John Christopher, who advocated not only raw foods, but was a pioneer in herbal healing. I would ask him how he combated the problem (in his day) of dealing with an unbelieving public, and being one of the front runners of a (future) massive movement. Then I would pick his brain for other information, but you said I could only ask one question ;)
Be Blessed!
Amy Roberts

Hi Angela. Here are the questions that I would ask Dr. Norman Walker if I had the chance to speak to him -
Dear Dr. Walker,
given what you know now, after a lifelong test of a high rawfood diet, juicing; and the vegetables and fruits that you chose as the most healing to the body----- and with all the confusion over whether or not fruit or carrots or beets contribute to candida or an imbalance in our inner ecosystem; and given the quality of the soil today and the changes that we've seen in the nutritional content of our natural foods, would you still place carrots and high sugar fruits and vegetables; ----what is felt by most these days as too-high-sugar fruits and vegetables that should be for the most part avoided ----on the top of your list for the healing of all ailments?
what would you most recommend for healing the inner-imbalances that most of society seems to battle with; candida, fungal infections and the like.
And along with a balanced detoxification and full body healing program, would you recommend supplemental enzymes, and supplemental probiotics?
What do you feel is the most effective way to rebuild good bacteria in our bodies? detoxification and a rawfood diet, or implanting man-grown probiotics into our system?
And, lastly, do you feel that what the world considers healthy algae's and healthy yeasts like, spirulina, chlorella, nutritional yeast, medicinal mushrooms, kombucha, beta glucan 1, 3, 6 etc, are a vital contribution to health, or a detrimental contribution to an overgrowth of fungus, yeast and mold in the body?
I would ask these questions, because I'm continually asking these questions to myself. My body is in a constant struggle with what most people think of as healthy superfoods, and an imbalance of yeast, inflammation, water retention, fungal infection...... etc, in my body. I've only just begun to view spirulina as a potentially harmful substance to the imbalance of health in my body, and would love to know Walker's opinion on this. I've also recently added fruit and carrots back into my diet after avoiding them for years for fear they contribute to candida.... i'm going to try this now, and drop the green powders and see if it's more effective for me. i would love to have the hands-on guidance of Dr. Walker! What a blessing that would be.
Here is who I would consider Dr. Walker's predecessor www.godsherbs.com
Dr. Robert Morse, the author of The Detox Miracle Sourcebook
Thanks Angela.
Take Care,
Jennifer
---------------
I would ask Dr Norman Walker, "Tell me the most important secret to your longevity." I expect that he would say "raw foods", but you never know! ;) Maybe there really is a fountain of youth.
Cheers
Khadija
-----------------
I would connect with the wonderful Dr. Ann Wigmore.
The question I would ask her is:
When you were ill and turned to nature to develop the LIVING FOODS LIFESTYLE, how did you publicly deal with the feedback of others who considered you not a pioneer and visionary, but a radical or fanatic?
magiem
--------------
My Question to a long time (7-12yr) Raw Foodist would be ~~~~Do you have 3 bowel movements a day ~~like they(Dr. Jensen) say we should?
scicely
-------------
Hi from Australia, I would love to chat with Dr Bernard Jenson, his book was the first I bought on my journey to "Raw" and even now I still refer to it consider the book to be my Bible and never, never lend.
\My question to him would be about our fruit/veggies of to-day how we are able to purchase items out of season would he consider this to bee an advantage or because of cold storage to have lost their nutrients?
Cheers Jan

------------------
I would ask Dr. Norman Walker if he thinks combining fruits like granny
smith apples, pineapple, or grapes with various green juice combinations
reduces the effective healing properties contained in the greens...and
if so to what degree?
Most of the juice recipe combinations I have read about in Dr. Norman
Walker's juicing book are either just fruits or just vegetables, but
generally not combinations of the two. Years ago, I recall a friend's
argument that if fruit and vegetable juices are combined and consumed
simultaneously that the body needs to choose which one it is going to
digest first (probably fruit in this case) making the nutrient content
in the vegetables reduced or possibly lost altogether since it is second
in line so to speak in the digestion process. I am relatively new to
drinking green juices daily and find the only way for me to drink green
juice is to add just enough fruit to make it taste good. If the
nutrient content absorbed from the greens in a fruit/vegetable juice is
in fact drastically reduced, this would push me to work towards
gradually reducing the amount of fruit in my green juice recipes.
Kimberly
----------------
I would speak to Arnold Ehret.....my favourite author
I would ask him if HE REALLY DIED FROM A FALL? as is told of him or if he died from a heart attack or other problems....If this fall story was a cover up or not......to lose such a great man through a fall, is unbelievable, he was not even old
Thanks
Teresa
-------------------
If I could ask one question of a previous raw food expert from the past, it would unquestioningly be Herbert Shelton, whom I first read waaaay back in 1981 and whom I consider the greatest of the great (although he didn't always take his own advice -- he couldn't keep away from cheeses and I've heard from those who knew him personally that he liked ice cream!). But he fasted tens of thousands of people in his lifetime and was probably the most knowledgeable person about fasting on the planet.
I'd ask him: "If you were in an accident and had to go to the emergency room, how would you handle all the drugs and anesthesia, not to mention the saline IV, that the doctors would give you as a matter of routine? Would you take them and later try to fast them out, or would you refuse most of them?"

What is the single most important message or life/love ingredient that you would like to share with us for better nourishment of our souls?
Aurelia
------------------
Hi Angela!
Fun to see this in your newsletter... heres my entry:
I would love to speak to Ann Wigmore.
I would ask her what she thinks of the various raw food theories that are popular today... fruitarianism, supplements, dehydrated gourment, Hippocrates...
Thanks for the great newsletter!
Amy
-----------------
If I could connect to a Raw Food Pioneer of by-gone days, I would definitely connect with Dr. Ann Wigmore. I am already connected with her as I read each character of every book she has written I "hear" her speaking to me. Teaching me. Guiding me. Helping me become a raw foodist.
My single question would be "Dr. Wigmore? How has your teachings and guiding hundreds of folks made your heart feel?"
I'm sure her heart is full of the love and fulfillment that she got pleasure out of while writing her books. How could it not feel contentment? Fulfillment? Satisfaction? When one is pure and healthy themselves, the teaching and guiding becomes secondary in one's life.
I would love just to hear her speak directly to me.
Lucy
----------------
Paul Bragg or Norman Walker
When you cut into fresh veggies or fruits do you lose enzymes only on the cut edge or do all the enzymes gradually leave the entire item and if so, how long does that take?
Alice
--------------
I would ask Ann Wigmore if it was 100% official that I would heal from my rhumathoïd artrhitis by becoming 100% rawfoodist. If so, then I would try it.
Thanks Angela!
Carole.
---------------
I would talk to Paul Bragg as I have had stories from a mentee of his that lived with him on a compound in Hawaii. I would ask him what it was like to organize a village of like minded individuals and all work together to create better health and a better world. I would ask him to tell me about some of the lives he touched. It must have been amazing!
Thx Angela!

Prize: A pair of our Cobra POI
Question: What have been your top THREE raw food highlights of 2007? |
(To see a video of me Poi Spinning on the beach, click HERE ;) |
Winning Entry (picked at random):
My top three RAW highlights of 2007 are:
1. Curing my allergies to fresh fruits! Can you imagine!!! My body
had become so toxic over the years on a SAD diet that I developed an
allergy to fresh fruit. I had to live without fresh fruits for 10
years!!!! Get this...I could eat them if they were cooked -- Phewy, no
good!
2. Curing my allergies to nuts! Yep, you betcha..couldn't eat those
either. One beautiful hazelnut would have me seeing black dots in my
vision, closed up throat, and down for the count. Couldn't even
attempt a nibble! Get this...I could eat SAD peanut butter, of
course! Phewy, no good!
3. Hearing David Wolfe present a lecture at my school, The Institute of
Integrative Nutrition (New York City), in November. Having my picture
taken with him and hanging out with him at his raw chocolate charity
event all evening. NEED I SAY MORE????!!!!! It was the BEST DAY EVER!
Happy New You (and Mr. Monarch)! Happy New Me! Happy New Year!!With gratitude,
Kristy

Being that this was the first year of my raw food journey, the highlights are many. Here are the top three.
1. Losing 50 pounds my body no longer needed while eating raw and living foods.
2. Meeting you and Mr. Monarch at the Taste of Health Conference in Vancouver.
3. Experiencing a 30 day juice feast...and all the energy that is experienced along with it.
It's been an amazing year, getting to know myself better and seeing just how much of my life changed for the better, all because of what I decided to eat. I am really glad that I found my way onto the raw path and now I just want to share it with others because it's so amazing. Once you find the truth, you can never look back!
Thanks for being there to share your stories and motivate me as well.
Melinda.
--------------------------
My highlights have been the following:
1) My first green smoothie!
2) Inventing my own paté. I am so proud! The first time I prepared something without using a recipe. (Raw food can make you so creative in the kitchen :-)
3) Learning that I am an emotional overeater. Thanks to Angelas book "How to go raw for weightloss. An introduction for overeaters." I know that there is actually a name for my "condition". Still need to do alot of work in this area, but knowing now what I am dealing with is one big step forward.
Thank you,
Silvia

There's been so much~~~
Connecting with so many raw food advocates during my radio shows including you, Matt AND Matt Amsden, David Wolfe, Tim Van Orden and soooo many others; having a mastermind of mostly raw people; getting to do a raw food/smoothie demo on the cruise we took down south; hearing how raw has changed the lives of so many including one of my students and her son ~ Sunshine (rawtism.com); hearing how raw has healed so MANY of cancer including Ruth Heidrich and Brenda Cobb who I also had the privilege of interviewing; getting to do a show with Alissa Cohen for so many months (www.rawkinradio.com)... trying out new recipes and sharing them with others; going to great restaurants such as CRU and Terra Bella... just a wondrous year!

1. April 14th (or somewhere around there)- I went raw! I was leading and participating in a 3 week spring cleanse. Starting on day 1 of the cleanse, and each 3 days after, everyone was encouraged to remove three things from their diet and/or lifestyle, as well as to add 3 things...for example things to remove could have been wheat, dairy and tv- and things to add could have been dark leafy greens, yoga, and going to sleep earlier. And of course it went a little deeper each 3 days. It was designed to be very individual, to serve each person as they needed. And a huge part of deciding on what to add and remove, came through meditation and intuition. Each person was encouraged to sit daily and reflect on how the cleanse was going for them, and what the next phase would look like. Since I was leading the group, I was really going for it- really cluing in to what was best for me- body and spirit. As we were coming out of the deepest part of the cleanse, I had spent a few days juicing and eating only veggies and fruits. I was planning on adding back in some whole grains, and as I sat in my meditation, I got clarity around the fact that I just didn't want to add those things in. So I didn't. And that was the begining of my raw journey!!
2. September 28th- Raw Chocolate Farewell Party! Just before I moved from New York City to San Francisco, at the request of some friends, I offered a raw chocolate class at my apartment in NYC. There were about 15 people there for the class which was AMAZING!! I did a demo of making chocolate bars, we talked a bit about how amazing raw chocolate is- and then everyone got to make their own bar! And then- we made raw chocolate sauce, and sundaes with raw nut ice cream from Pure Food and Wine, and local fruit. Some of my raw friends were there, as well as some other folks who are not raw- it was beautiful. And once we were all high from the love and the chocolate and the agave syrup, the evening turned into a fantastic farewell party for both my roommate and I. It was a really lovely way to end my time living in NYC.
3. October 12th-14th- Raw Spirit Festival! Oh my- what a fantastic, beautiful, amazing, fun, joyful, healing, magical experience! 2000 raw folks, sharing a weekend in what felt like the Garden of Eden. I loved all of the connections I made, the hugs, the fact that everyone was eating the exact same, delicious food! I worked a little in the kitchen and it was the most ease filled kitchen experience I've had. I danced to amazing music, had some phenomenal healing, bodywork- great, yummy treats and juicy connections all around! What a highlight!!
Thanks for asking! This has been one INCREDIBLE year!! I feel so grateful!
Love,
Savrah

Hi Angela!
1.David Wolfe's 21 Days To Health program
2.Cacao and bee pollen
3.Four day green juice feast

My three raw-highlights for 2007!
1. My first raw highlight of the year was in January when my family and I
moved from an isolated little farm up in Oregon to Santa Barbara,CA
where there is plenty of sunshine, farmers markets all year-round and
there are alot more raw and health-conscious people to associate with
and also a raw-food meetup group that holds monthly potlucks and other
events.
2. My second raw highlight of 2007 was the birth of my
son, Theo after years of being all-raw it was the most intense and
incredible experience of my life so far and was a reminder that raw
food is the diet we were meant to consume for even though I was raw
during the birth of my daughter three years ago, being raw for longer
and cleansing before getting pregnant this time definitely made a huge
difference in the whole experience. I also believe that having him at
home, in private with just my husband and daughter present made a huge
difference as well.
3. My third raw highlight of the year was definitely the Raw Spirit festival. I feel so grateful and happy that
we were able to attend, I only heard of the event for the first time
about a month before it was going to be held so at first I didn't
think it was likely we would be able to attend but we all really
wanted to go badly so we spent alot of time and energy thinking and
talking about going and even posted the flyer where we would see it
often. We worked extra hard and saved money and became volunteers at
the last minute (My husband and I ended up splitting the graveyard
security shift 10pm-7am). This event was probably not only a major
highlight of my year but also a major highlight of my life. I had not
fully realized how many people were into the raw-food lifestyle I had
previously believed that there were only a few hundred people at most
in the U.S. that were aware of the raw diet so I was completely blown
away at the thousands of people attending this festival. I feel
incredibly blessed to be a part of this lifestyle which is rapidly
gaining momentum and changing the world at a fast pace. These people
are no doubt the brightest and most beautiful that the planet has to
offer and I am filled with a sense of excitement at what the future
holds for all of us. Well that is my raw reflection of 2007 I am
glad that I am able to receive this blog that motivates me to do
things like looking at this past year in retrospect and also
motivating me to write about it. You both keep up the great work and may the
raw spirit stay with you throughout the years, perhaps we can all spin
poi together at the Raw spirit fest next year!
Blissings,Blessings!
Valencia
--------------------------
Right On Raw Reflections of 2007...
Well, number one was definitely being on the volunteer team at the Raw Spirit Fest in Sedona for the third year in a row and volunteering with the children's area. Highlights were singing and drumming on Hummingbird's large drum with a happy group of kids, stilt-walking and creating a lively parade throughout the grounds, and meeting all of the other fabulous folks who each brought a beautiful piece to share with the children and their families, be it a craft idea, healthy eating workshop, discussion about new school intentions, etc.
Another raw reflection stemmed out of this event, into the friendships I made with the folks who came to stay at my abode during and after the Raw Spirit festival. Sharing recipes, food creation ideas, massage and reflexology, music and inspiration.
Last, but certainly not least, I gain so much inspiration and information from your RawReform e-mails!! This has truly been a jewel for this year, to receive each e-mail and open it as a gift to see what it contains. Thanks and blessings on your journey!!
love and light,
Deborah
-----------------------------
My highlights are the following:
1. Spending 18 days at the Tree of Life in Arizona in April . That was a real life changing experience, with a juice fast, Zero point, and lots of walking and yoga and getting to work in their garden.
2. Planning a Raw food Dinner party for 9 of my friends and their friends, to introduce them to raw food. That was a blast, and everyone was surprised how good the food was. One who was eating some raw said my Rawvioli was better than the restaurant in Chicago!! That was very inspiring to hear!
3. Learning what to put in Nori wraps from a friend that was here for a few days. I'm actually learning to like Nori!
Thanks, blessings to you.
Jennifer
--------------------------------
Raw Highlights of 2007
1. Reading Angela's Blogs and all the interesting and informative info in them.
2. Raw pot luck gatherings once or twice a month.
3. Sharing the raw life with more and more people, even if they think I'm nuts.
Lin

1. when mr monarch snuck into angela's computer and wrote that hysterical post to all with the joker picture... humor RAWks... lighten up!
2. when matt & angela announced their engagement, and we found out exactly what happens when the raw worlds two hottest hotties fall in love
3. when angela sent her raw reform newsletter to me daily, ever reminding me that dreams can come true... to RAWk on, so to speak
Aurelia

-that this year around 10 of February i profoundly experienced the raw-revealing journey of the '92 days of Juices-Feasting' in the green lushy tropical hills of Far North Queensland in Australia,... with the great help of your inspirational and leading story - example in Costa Rica and with the reading of your Juice Feaster Handbook... (to remember that on day 40 a heavenly voice and image of you appeared in a dream to tell me the date of Juice Feasting i was on, just before awakening!!...)
-that after travelling for 3 years around the world i've ''surprisingly'' met a 'peal of partner' with whom i share 100% organic-raw-living-foods and are working together in the field of raw food education, spiritual healing, world peace and next possibly...music...
-that after all the initial struggles and difficulties, moments of joy and happiness on the journey (3 years) now i know that i'm not longer craving for any cooked foods and are blessed to feel part of a great and growing Family of Light and Raw Foods...
may 2008 continue successful with its realisation and challenges for all us Lightbringer...
Much Love and Blessings to you both,
Ivan

Herb Doc
I would have to say my top three tips for a successful raw lifestyle would be......................
~ Laugh! Don't be so hard on yourself if you mess up a recipe, or it doesn't turn out "exactly" how it looks in the picture.....learn to experiment on your own, enjoy it, and Laugh about it!
~ Knowledge is everything! Read, Read, Read......there are so many books, so little time!!
~ Listen to your body. Don't be so hard on yourself and think you MUST have a salad everyday or you MUST drink this or that everyday.........some days all I crave are fruits. Eat what your body is telling you to eat......if your body is saying to eat something unhealthy.....recreate that food into a raw creation, and enjoy!!
These are my three tips. I hope your having a wonderful day Angela!
~~~Jaynel~~~
1. be prepared
have your pantry and refrigerator stocked with the supplies/foods that you need for success. indulge in the multitude of raw book / raw site recipes
2. get support
if you don't have much support from those you live with and/or love...find support on-line and in person with those that are like-minded. (ie: rawreform!)
3. look to the future
don't worry about yesterday...think about how much better you'll feel after you had a raw day...and that leads to a raw week...and so on and so on and so on. love yourself or each raw meal/snack that you nourished your body with.
have the best day ever!
Claudia
Hey Angela,
One tip is that I created a list of reasons why I am raw. I read this list over and over and post it in my office, kitchen, and in my wallet.
Second tip is that I make a lot of snack food for parties or occasions when I know I will be tempted to eat cooked food.
Third tip is that I listen to podcasts, read blogs, write my own blog, and keep in touch with other raw people so that I can exchange energy with others (lack of energy exchange makes me feel lonely and disconnected, a great reason to eat poorly!)
Thanks!
-Becca
1.Read as many blogs on raw foods as possible,
2. Participate in message boards and
3. Eat lots of bananas. If I am very hungry I eat a banana
before even thinking about eating cooked.
Thanks a lot and keep doing the work you do. You are a great inspiration!
Alma
Prepare ahead so food will be ready at home
Make scrumptious desserts
Eat before going out and bring something to share
RR
1. Plan ahead
2. Keep it simple
3. Address all the Naysayers with a sense of humor
RD
My top three tips for success on a raw lifestyle are:
1. Surround yourself with kind, happy, like-minded people.
2. Become a "hunter/gatherer" of raw foods - you will find them in places you never thought possible.
3. Think positively, laugh often and be open to new knowledge and experience.
Melinda
1) Embrace the raw lifestyle. Have fun with it and always be positive about your lifestyle.
2) Always try keeping it fresh and fun by inventing new recipes or looking for recipes online.
3) Always update your knowledge on raw food and motivate yourself by reading books on raw living.
Khadija.
1. Just begin adding stuff in. (e.g. superfoods)
2. Listen to inspirational talks by raw foodists.
3. Find raw foods that you love.
AW
#1. Fill my mind, cupboards, and refrigerator with foods that closest resemble nature and life.
#2. Eat my food with peace, trust, freedom, and love...preferably in the sunshine!
#3. Follow truthful intuition and be guilt free when the world gets the better of me.
Shoshannah
1. Forgive yourself if you eat something that is unhealthy. Guilt is not a gateway to healing!
2. Don't preach raw to others. Teach by example. Otherwise, you will open yourself up to harsh criticism. Remember, people fear the unknown!
3. Pray or meditate before you eat. In this way, you will absorb the most nutrition from your food. Eating when you are upset will not help your digestion...or your peace of mind.
LP
1. Honesty with yourself about your expectations
2. Realisation we are fallible, tentative and only human
3. Support of loving and caring people
With those 3 things, you can be a success at anything
Fray
1. Attitude: maintain a sense of ease, play and curiosity. This way, eating raw doesn't become a "chore" or "deprivation."
2. Greens: keeps everything in balance. Green smoothies, green drinks, green salads - they quell the cravings and satisfy soul deep.
3. Support & Community: support from family, friends and community (nearby or online) is essential for raw success.
Thanks!
Marsha
1. KNOW WHY you are doing this. Not other reasons
people tell you that you should, but what your
innermost, core reasons are.
2. Write those reasons down and keep them with you
always (or commit them to memory), so you have them to
reflect on when temptations hit.
3. Always be prepared. This includes making sure you
shop well and have a good supply of things to eat that
are raw so you don't grab the cooked food of the
person sitting next to you, and if you know you're
going to be away from home for a while, taking
something WITH you. For some, this could also include
finding a support group either locally or online if
they know it's something they need.
Enjoy! :D I wish EVERYONE MUCHO raw success and love!
:D
In light and love,
Sunshine :D
1) don't try to eat raw--commit to eating raw.
2) make sure you have plenty of recipes for great food for all holidays. That way you can share with friends and family and still keep yourself on track.
3) remind yourself constantly of the benefits of eating raw. My health is why I choose raw.
Robin
+Don't chastise yourself when you stray
+Ask yourself why you want something "off limits" instead of just saying "no, no, no," to yourself
+eat lots of greens (or drink them)
Thank you...I love your blog!
-Erika
1. When tempted to stray, have a fresh juice first, or if impossible then have a herbal tea with honey.
2. Read about other people living the raw life online or in books.
3. Compare your health today while raw to the way it was before.
caraid.
1. follow my own feelings about what my body needs;
2. find and practice ways that help to make the raw lifestyle meaningful (spiritually) & pleasurable;
3. be part of a community of others to share the raw lifestyle.
Sharon
- always bring and eat enough raw food.
- have goodies prepared and stashed for munchie attacks.
- stay inspired by reading blogs and boards.
Warren
1. Love your live food and feel it loving you every time you eat earths creation.
2. Hang Kirlian pictures of live food in your kitchen so the life force you see will inspire you.
3. When you eat live food be conscious of the many senses you experience in your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual body, and be thankful for it all.
Culla
1. Do it at your bodies pace.
2. Find support in your area.
3. Read, Read, Read all info about the raw lifestyle to help guide your transition to raw.
Thanks,
Patricia
1. Think of youth
2. Think of wellness
3. Think of happy disposition
These will inspire to eat raw because the above will be the
benefits of eating raw
DM
1. Remember why I am living this way. I think about how badly I felt when I was 60+ pounds overweight and vibranting on a low frequency. When I focus on how great I feel, it's easy to stay on course.
2. I surround myself with wonderfully fantastic raw food. My dehydrator is always warming up some yummy bread.....my fridge is always stocked with rawsome salad ingredients....and I am continously looking for new recipes.
3. I inundate myself with raw information. I read books.....blogs....websites and my own journal. It is very important to surround yourself with people who understand your lifestyle and to take your time to stay current in the movement.
Jayna'
1. You must be absolutely certain that raw plant food is the best choice for you. If you are not sure, eat some more cooked food, then reassess your opinion. Cravings are a reality on this journey and they are nothing to be ashamed of.
2. Simply eat raw plant food, no matter what! Meanwhile, get in touch and stay in touch with what your Higher Self (i.e. Goddess) wants for you through prayer, meditation, and other daily spiritual practices.
3. Become willing to take the advice of those that have gone before you and make ongoing appropriate choices and changes according to your Higher Self's divine direction. Examples are juicing, superfoods, colonics, exercise, sunshine, and spiritual practices.
Enjoy!
SS
1) WANT IT! And write down all the reasons you want to be raw to review when things get hard!
2) READ/RESEARCH and START. Read as much as possible from those who have started this journey before to learn, learn, learn.
2) FIND SUPPORT. With so many people already on this journey - find support from those whose journey you agree with. There are many ideas of the "right" way to do raw but find one that you agree with since if you get support from someone whose ideas you don't agree with you may use it as an excuse not to continue with raw.
Theresa
* BE KIND TO YOURSELF AND PATIENT
Prize: A copy of Anastasia by Vladimir Megre
Question: 'Who Inspires YOU?' (plus your top three reasons why they inspire you...) |
 |
Winning Entry (picked at random):
The person who inspires me most is Jesus:
1. He loves us no matter how much we mess up and always wants the best for us.
2. He gave His life for us, who so did not "deserve" it, but He gave it because of His love.
3. He was never afraid or intimidated of speaking the truth.
Thanks!! Much peace and love,
Cindy Kyle
CONGRATULATIONS, Cindy and thanks to you and everyone who entered this giveaway, sharing their inspired stories :)
----------------------------- Below are some of the other wonderful entries received - enjoy the insights ;) (Please note, the messages below are those
of individual contributors, are published-as-sent and are not
necessarily representative of the views of RawReform.)
I am inspired by Amma, the hugging saint. Here are three reasons:
- She devotes her time and energy to deliver a message of Love
- She sees all beings as immortal Spirits
- Her embrace is charged with sweet magical motherly power!
:-)
Love to you,
Leticia
Oohh, there are so many wonderfull people, who inspires me. At the time being, David Wolfe inspires me. - What´s new about that, he he.
His spiritual approach talks to my heart. My spiritual growth is the main reason why I´m raw.
I like his experiences with superfoods and find it very interesting, that certain kinds of foods can help you to open your heart and help you grow.
His words: "Mix the stuff from the heavens with the stuff from the earth, and live all your life in magick". That blow me away...just LOVE it.
I enjoy your journal, Angela. Keep up the good work.
Love and light, Linea from Denmark.
SHAZZIE! I first read about the raw food lifestyle when I found Shazzie's blog. I read and read and decided to try it. I felt a connection to Sharon, and followed her life on-line. So she inspired me to be a raw foodist, then she inspired me to 'Detox Your Life'. I read and re-read her book. Because of Shazzie, I use clean products, and a lot less products, and protect myself from EMF waves, and a host of other things. Then Shazzie inspired me to be a good Mom. I became a StepMom around the same time as Evie was born. Shazzie's natural nurturing mothering gave me courage to take on the raising of two children, and continues to do so. Shazzie also inspires me to have fun and enjoy my life, something I never did before. I always went by the credo, work hard, and enjoy things when the work is done. Well, the work is NEVER done. I realized through Shazzie that happiness and enjoying life are an essential part of everyday life.
I know that Shazzie has probably inspired many thousands of people. I am just one very grateful one.
Thanks for having a contest,
All the best to you,
Trina
Well I would have to say that you inspire me more than any other raw food person
Reasons
1 You are very down to earth with humility, full of real joy and love that transfers to others
2 You are a shining example of the effects of raw diet
3 You are a warm human being who is on a spiritual journey
Mary
The person that inspires me is my late husband Jirragagn Kakaquo.
1. The depth of his spirituality and the wisdom of his teachings gave me the understanding as to why he had to leave and gave me the strength to keep walking on and take care of our 6 children.
2. His strength and dedication to his wife (me) and children together with his strong honour and determination to provide for his family even when he shouldn't have been fit to do so.
3. His dedication to helping others and the way he embraced the raw way of life to heal himself naturally without drugs or medical intervention.
Love & Light
TraceyM
The person that inspires me on my life journey towards holistic wellness and transformation is Harmon, my wonderful husband. 1) He loves me unconditionally and is always looking out for my best interests, even when I dont see it at the time.
2) He always encourages and supports me to be my best in all that I do physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
3) He supports my raw food kitchen experimentations, and is a great taste tester who gives his honest opinion gently.
4) He will also challenge me; we challenge each other, and have respectful discussions if we disagree on important decisions.
He is my heavenly mate and we compliment each other perfectly! J Together forever in good times and challenging times! J The books about Anastasia sound amazing!
Choose Life,
The person who inspires me the most I would have to say it is my mother.
She is kind and loving towards everything, people, animals, and plants.
She always makes time for me and my sister no matter how hectic her schedule is.
She has shown me the humor in life's interesting corks! :)
I love my mom so much, but she truly has inspired me to be a better, healthier person.
Thank you, and congratulations on your engagement. You too can have land, and slowly learn to settle down into that lifestyle...all good things come in time. It may not work out the way we plan, but it always seems to work out! :)
Take care Angela.
Children inspire me.
I am a teacher, amongst many other trades, yet with children, I remember to be aware of all they teach me.
Children retain the natural innocence of the mystery so beautifully. All of life is that of wonder, and I am honored to be in their presence so I keep remembering this.
Children laugh without restraint! They are all about truth and being present. What gifts!
Children are not ours, they are life's longing for itself. (Khalil Gibran)
deborah
This may sound cheesy, but really, you have been a turning point in my evolution. 3 reasons why you inspire me..
* ..because you were so honest and vulnerable - so real. In your vulnerability there is space for me to be there with you.
* ..because when I have written a personal email to you - you have written back - wow!! You are not only real - you care enough to bother.
* ..because you share. You keep sharing - which feels like you keep caring. It inspires me because I feel I belong. And I love all the wonderful things that happen to you! They happen to me too, however it is always good to share in others joy! It's uplifting.
Big love
Lisa xxxxx
My inspiration to stay RAW and even to go RAW is
children. Im 55 and work with preschool Montessori
children. I love my work. I went raw for them, so
that I could stay at my intensive work, and to be
present for them. I also wanted to share my love of
raw fruits and veggies with them and to encourage them
to eat more of them! That is why I went RAW, and Ive
been grateful for each day. My RAW life began
2/10/07.
Thanks so much,
Paula
What fun! Let's see- who inspires me...
Barbara Kingsolver
Three reasons...
1.Amazing, brilliant writer!
2.She and her family went local! (They only eat food that is locally grown in their garden or that they can buy/exchange with neighbors or at the farmer's market).
Check out her latest book: Animal, Vegetable, Miracle.
3.She thoroughly researches her subjects, cultures, landscapes, etc. before she writes. Therefore she can educate the reader very well through story, fiction, and essay. She convinces through the heart and mind, without being preachy.
Thanks!
Asha Wolf
The answer for me is my beloved friend and teacher: Dr. Ellen Tart-Jensen.
(1) Her unconditional love and the way she has always taught me from a place of love.
(2) How dedicated she is to the service of others and how she truly reaches out and cares for those she teaches.
(3) And most of all how she is honest and actually lives the path she teaches with honor and respect for all.
With abundant love and gratitude,
Brian
July 2007 RawReform Newsletter Giveaway
Prize: $10 gift voucher from www.RawVeganBooks.com
Question: What strategy would you recommend for raw foodies to handle mainstream social functions like dinner parties and business meetings?
Winning Entry (picked at random):
My suggestions for dinner parties is to make enough incredible,
mouth-watering, satisfying salad for everyone, stash some sweet
goodies in your bag (raw fudge anyone?), don't go to the party hungry,
stay away from the buffet table, and enjoy yourself! Focus on the
socialization aspect, and remember - people are generally more
concerned about how other people view them than anything to do with
anyone else. If you're not focused on your eating, they won't be!
If you can't do it potluck style, ensure your host/ess knows to serve
you fresh, raw veggies, bring your personal stash of goodies, maybe
even a light meal's worth, just in case.
Question: What strategy would you recommend for raw foodies to handle
mainstream social functions like dinner parties and business meetings?
I know that being 100% is WHO I am....therefore no matter what the
circumstances or situaiton there is NO other option for me than to eat raw.
With that said.... a prepared raw foodist is a wise raw foodist :-) I do
not leave home without a small bag in my purse/car/bag of soaked
nuts//dehydrated fruits (from my home), 2 apples, 1 liter of water and 1
avocado. You canNOT go wrong with an avocado. You can turn a simple salad
into a real meal... put 1/2 avocado in chunks on top of salad...use the
saucer and mix the remaining 1/2 avocado with little olive oil (optional*)
with salt and pepper and use as "dressing". Read the menu for ALL meals and
find ways to get fresh fruit as a dessert...or raw veggies (sometimes used
for garnish) as you "main meal". I like to make date/nut balls with coconut
around them and carry them with me. They will my dessert while others chow
down on intestine clogging white flour cake and sugar of which I'd rather
eat the weeds in the sidewalk before I consumed :) Also, carry flax
crackers with you!!!!! You can have a small cute tote "lunch" bag that has
all of these items in it.
The point is that you can be 100% raw no matter what the situation.
Jayna'
I end up taking the focus off the food and onto the person which is the reason for getting together
anyway. If someone asks I just say "I feel much better if I eat a light
meal"...I don't even go into the "raw" thing anymore. I do have
something like a banana before going out but I have also begun to enjoy
the feeling of being a little hungry (not starvation here) just that
feeling of lightness.
It is all your focus. If you expect a business meeting to be a
challenge b/c of your food choice then it will. If you decided that
your focus on making your client or colleague feel hear and appreciated
then that will be your result. The meal is not the main thing - it is
simply a mixer to give people something to do with their hands b/c we
are not use to putting the other person first...we are not use to taking
the focus completely off of us.
So my tip would be "take the focus off of yourself". Like my wonderful
mother-in-law says "the first step to self help is to forget about
yourself".
Love it!
Emily
Eat ahead of time and when you get there eat salad which is always available or some fruit. Go with the flow. Don't make it hard on yourself.
Jessica
As for the non (raw,vegan or even vegetarioan!!!) restaurant visits I'll share U some of my "stuff".The most "delicate seem to be the "family obligations, celebrating events and activities held in those non vegetarian oriented eateries". 2 THINGS SEEM TO WORK JUST FINE: 1) seek 4 a "partner in crime", who can give some xtra strenght and support in case your non supportive family is going to question and ridicule you... (yes the use of the word crime is apropriated since the s.a.d. eaters will eventually treat U as if U are a delinquent for your food choice). 2) contact the restaurant owner in advance thanking him or her in advance for "understandingand respecting" your food choice (and REQUESTS!!) AND THUS ABELING u TO ASSIST THIS FAMILY GATHERING IN HIS/HER PLACE. In the past I did this and it worked well, we got our fruit served first and then a nice vegetable presentation followed. Sometimes I do "smuggle" in some small and discreet to handle things as a lemon, a tiny bottle of honey, home made sauce etc. This is all nice if the restaurant is realy beneath all "raw" possible options. Hence if we lower our standards we can always have a minimuum consumation of minaeral water with a dash of fresh lemon juice or a freshly squeezed orange juice (although then sometimes "water" or "sugar" has been added to it). Invitations from friends are a bit less problematic to "handle" I often could avoid non vegetarian restaurant visits by offering a"home made meal-deal" to them ! For bussiness and unknown persons it works saying U are broke or that U regard some standarts for lactose intolerance, diabetes, colitis etc. People like to talk about their ailments but "let U in peace if U can inform them on how to avoid them etc." Of course it all depends on WHERE U LIVE, WHO ARE YOUR NEIGHBORS and so much more.
Carma
Flessibility and respect are the keys, do not judge and don't mind if somebody judges you, you know how good raw foods are for you, so continue walk your talk.
Leyla
I'm just begining this raw food life, but I
found most commonly people already bring veggie trays
to parties and things, so instead I always offer to
bring that. Along with a dessert, like cacao balls or
some reallllly good bannana and cacao butter. also for
a main course a salad is great. I realized that people
dont bother you so much if it looks like something
familiar, but ordering a plain salad from a resturant
and bringing your own dressing is a little awkward.
Nameless
Order something basic like a salad or fruit platter and mention that you just ate and/or
bring an extra snack that is relatively more mainstream, like a great raw trail mix.
Encourage potlucks as an opportunity to share great raw dishes, and finally--if anyone
asks, or you have concern about perception by someone fearful/judging, mention that the
diet is really not very extreme--that you're vegan and love to try to eat as many raw
fresh foods as possible--who could be down on that?
Marykaye
What I do is eat some of my wonderful raw food before I go so I'm not really hungry and then, to be sociable, I'll eat salad or whatever else is raw, more or less just nibble. I also always have a banana or two with me so if I do get hungry I can eat them there or on the way home.
Yvonne
I have been bold. I choose from the menu what I can eat and politely refuse the rest. I do not skirt the issue. I answer any questions by stating that I eat raw for my health and if they show an interest, I go on to explain the benefits that eating raw has given my health. I figure if we don't educate people, how can we expect to bring society around to our way of thinking and eating or at the least given us a choice in social situations. I love seeing people think it over.
Karen
Eat something before you go so you won't be tempted to eat the wrong things. A nice, big green smoothie does the trick for me. Once at the social function just choose or ask for salad, veggies or fruit, whatever is available. Don't make an issue of it and no one else will. Just smile and be yourself.
Kazzrie
The best way to handle these functions are to only eat from the vegtable and fruit plates and when tempting to succumb to non vegan, then to think of all the bad stuff you may be putting in your body, like chemicals, contributiing to death of animals and because we raise so much cattle the excrements from animals are a major factor in contributing to global warming.
Wind
do not attend hungry or with an attitude that you must "handle" something.
in other words, eat deliciously before you go and feed your mind an attitude of gratitude.
this is my recommendation in all areas of life, no matter if mainstream, social, or just plain existing!
Question:
What is THE most valuable piece of guidance you picked up in 2006 for having a healthy raw lifestyle?
Winning Entry (picked at random):
The most valuable piece of guidance I have picked up in 2006 was to find out what you
fear about going raw. I always believe that you can't change anything you aren't aware
of, but I never thought that fear might be something to keep me from raw foods. Once I
started thinking about it I realized that there were several things I feared (loosing
friends, alienating family etc.). Realizing my fears allowed me to work through them, and
even though some of them are still there, at least I am aware of them and so they can't
control me unless I allow them too.
Michelle, Norway.
CONGRATULATIONS, Michelle and thanks to you and everyone who entered this giveaway.
Below are some of the other wonderful entries received - enjoy these raw pearls of wisdom ;)
Question:
What is THE most valuable piece of guidance you picked up in 2006 for having a healthy raw lifestyle?
That I can do this as many others have. Take it slow- and there are
many health benefits for me. There are others out there for me to refer
to also.
Sharon D
STOP COOKING YOUR FOOOOOD!!!!!
jimmy
That I don't have to be perfect all the time. Going raw is a *process*, and unlearning a
lifetime of eating habits takes time. Being kind to myself when I backslide is very
important; a screw up doesn't mean that I've failed. There's also tomorrow - or the very
next meal - to do better.
Sue
drink at least 1 llitre of green juice each day and let the sun shine upon you .
D Hayes
The best raw advice I was given this year was recivied
by going to rainbow blossom in louisville, ky to see
you and matt monarch talk about your raw experiances.
it really was inspiring, ive been practicing raw
every since.
moon
First, you have to make the raw lifestyle convient for you and your own
personal life. its important to self educate, read about other peoples
experiences but ultimately its your journey. So, you really need to
sit down and write out a plan that fits into your daily life routine.
I did and i feel GR-R-R-R-R-R-R-EAT!
Loving you all,
Crystal
The most valuable insight I have had about eating raw food is: Live
food.live body; dead food.dead body. The Kirlian photos I've seen showing
the energy emitting from live food is too beautiful to ignore. That's what I
want my body, heart, and soul to look and feel like!! :-)
Carolyn
The most valuable piece of guidance I picked up in 2006 for having a healthy
raw lifestyle is that if I "fall of the wagon" so to speak: it's not the end
of the world. Don't beat myself up, just get back in there and do what you know
is the healthiest lifestyle. I am new at this raw lifestyle and I have found
it to be a stuggle.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Barb
The most valuable piece of guidance i had in 2006 for
living a raw lifestyle was to carry a grater whilst
travelling abroad to whip up some some fun textured
food on the road. It was a god send.
petal
to relax and drink green smoothies.
There you have it. Is there any better way to live!
Peggie
CLARITY!
Corinne
The most valuable tip I received in 2006 was - "Try to simplify your raw
food meals and food preparation." This helps with the digestive process and
helps save valuable time. It also makes it easier to stick to a raw diet.
"Simplify" has become my mantra for meal & snack preparation because I was
spending an inordinate amount of time in the kitchen. I welcome all simple &
quick recipes and value all tips on ways to simplify the process and make my
shopping and food cleaning/preparation more efficient. I know I have a lot
to learn.
Phyllis
In my opinion, the most valuable piece of information
for living a healthy raw food lifestyle is not to
consume excess sugar in the form of fruits and sweet
vegetables such as carrots and beets. I think just
because the food is raw is not an indicator of
healthfulness. It seems unnatural to eat 10 carrots a
day in the form of juice, or 5 mangoes a day.
Wendy
low-fat, high fruit raw is THE best and most natural way to eat
and i am so grateful for discovering this now!!
many blessings to you!
shelah
eat mindfully, keep it simple, and keep it living.
easy enough!
moonblossom
The most valuable piece of guidance for having a raw lifestyle was from you!
You said that going raw changed your life completely, you gained self
confidence, and you became honest with everyone.
That is what I am going to try to achieve; becoming honest. But not with people so much as being honest with me.
Alicia
Stop all animal products
Vitamix everything - green smoothies
Helen
The most valuable piece of guidance I have learned is to listen
to your intuition and what your body tells you. There are so many raw
gurus out there, all preaching a different way of eating raw foods, and
many are getting wonderful results. But I wondered, how is it that one
person does so well on say, a low fat raw diet, while another seems to
feel worse and their health deteriorates on such a diet?I have realized
that there is no one way of eating raw. You can still eat a raw diet
and be eating unheahlthy and get sick. It's important that we listen to
what our bodies are telling us. Everyone's body is fabulously unique
and if we listen closely to what our own has to say, we will realize
the body knows what its doing. Listening to your inner guidance about
what you should eat and how you should live your day, instead of
listening to other peoples ideas or theories of how we should live our
raw lifestyles(because it's what their own intuition says works for
them), is definetely THE most important thing I have ever learned about
how to live a beautiful and healthy life eating raw foods. Listening to
your intuition is also the most proufound thing I have ever learned on
how to live a life of happiness and abundance.
It is just mans turning away from instincthis opposing himself to
instinctthat creates consciousness. Instinct is nature and seeks to
perpetuate nature; while consciousness can only seek culture or its
denial.
