Raw Union Updates
In less than two weeks from now, Mr. M and I shall be wed at the Raw Union festie in S. Oregon. We are VERY excited and look forward to seeing all of you there who are able to attend in person :) To whet your appetite, here is our Minister for the nuptuals, Dr. David Wolfe, sharing his thoughts on the event:
I am also THRILLED to say that we have a new addition to the event line-up for the festie - smthg EVERYONE can contribute to, no matter where you are, or whether or not you're able to join us in the physical for the event...
We are going to be burying a TIME CAPSULE
during the wedding celebrations, packed with momentos, pictures,
goodies, predictions, hair locks, love letters, trinkets, bim-bobs and
whatever other little paraphenalia y'all might love to contribute ;)
The intention is to bury the time capsule to mark the celebration, plant a fruit tree nearby, then re-convene in 50 years time on the Summer Solstice, with whoever remembers ;) On June 21st, 2059, let's see who is still around in the physical to re-open the capsule and revel in the messages from half a century before...
I love time capsules; I've buried two before - one in the UK and one in The Netherlands... I'm excited to co-create this
third, beautiful, memorable collection for our future enjoyment...and I
hope you'll join us by bringing along or sending in whatever you'd love
to contribute to the capsule. Examples might be a picture, a 'trinket'
of some kind, your vision for the future
of the raw foods movement, a tape/disc, your gratitude list, a tooth, a
lock of hair and so on...whatever you feel you'd love for someone to
unwrap in 50 years time and remember you by ;) We'd prefer to receive smaller sized capsule contributions rather than bulky items, to make sure there is room for everyone to contribute to the box ;)
If you're coming to the Raw Union festie,
just bring your contribution along with you. If you're not able to be

What it is:
Irish
moss, or carrageen moss (Irish: carraigin, "little rock"), is a species
of seaweed which grows abundantly along the rocky parts of the Atlantic
coast of Europe and the Americas as well as parts of the Pacific. In
its fresh condition the plant is soft and cartilaginous, varying in
color from a greenish-yellow, through red, to a dark purple or
purplish-brown. The principal constituent of Irish Moss is a
mucilaginous body, made of the polysaccharide Carragenan of which it
contains about 55%; the plant also has nearly 10% protein and about 15%
minerals, specifically rich in iodine and sulfur. Because of the
abundant cell wall polysaccharides it will form a jelly when boiled or
processed with water expanding from 20 to 100 times of its weight.
Use in the food industry:
Irish
moss is used in bulk by the food industry to make jellies or aspic and
as a smooth binder. This can include ice creams, desserts, drinks,
savory foods and flans.
Cosmetically used:
Emulsifier
in skin creams, gels, shampoos, and as a skin softener. And it
nourishes and protects your skin from environmental elements. It is an
anti-tissuive, and effective against halitosis, plus the formation of
varicose veins.
Irish Moss, when mixed into body lotions, turns dry,
rough, patchy skin into smooth, silky, hydrated, glowing skin. It
moisturizes and treats even the most unmanageable skin issues,
including eczema, psoriasis, rashes and sunburns. It supports the
skin's natural moisture barrier, keeps harmful, drying external
elements out and beneficial moisture in. Helps support healthy skin
appearance.
Health Benefits:
Irish Moss contains
A,B,C,D vitamins that nourish the skin, in addition to its functional
benefits. Raw Irish Moss is an excellent source of minerals. This
almost-tasteless seaweed is loaded with life-enhancing nutrients such
as sulphur compounds, protein, iodine, bromine, beta-carotene, calcium,
iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, zinc,
pectin, B-vitamins and vitamin C. Notably absent from a vegetarian
diet, sulphur-containing amino acids, such as taurine, are abundant in
Irish Moss, more so than in any other type of seaweed!
Irish

reported to be effective against cancer and radiation poisoning
(possibly because of the iodine content), it protects from obesity and
cholesterol build up. Irish Moss has a well documented anticoagulant
effect on the blood, and clears up many bladder complaints. Irish Moss
gives excellent sources of calcium, magnesium, sodium and iodine
(essential to normal thyroid function).
It is used to increase the metabolic rate and strengthen connective tissues, including the hair, skin and nails.

“I like to do deep breathing.
I count to 10 SLOWLY. And breath deeply. I then try to regain focus by
doing a kundalini yoga trick by closing my eyes and focus at the brow
point or ''third eye'' and if that doesn’t do the trick then I add the
words Sat Nam. While
inhaling I think ''Sat'' and while exhaling I think ''Nam''. It means
true identity. Usually this helps me to be in the moment and remember
my self and not be ''attached'' to what I think I am or ''need''.
And then of course
if I still feel that I actually need a similar food, there is usually
something amazing available in one of my raw cook books or ready for picking in nature that will cure it.
