Vilcabamba Raw Food Gathering Update
WOW - today is the third day of the 2010 Raw Food Gathering here in Vilcabamba, Ecuador and we've had an action-packed, delightful celebration together so far this weekend :) We opened the festival on Saturday afternoon at the Sambuca Yoga Studio with a lovely intention circle, chanting and ecstatic dance, followed by the *fabulous* opening party of the new raw-friendly Papayas Cafe
in Vilcabamba town...my cheeks *ached* from the perma-grin that day, as
we met all the raw foodies starting to flow into town and also
witnessed with such joy the merging of locals, raw foodies, new transplants and more, all mingling together in this gorgeous new space and enjoying outstanding raw desserts and drinks - WOW :)
I just posted some photos to Flickr of the first couple of days of the gathering - see HERE.

Mr. Monarch just posted a video from the first day too, featuring an interview with Dave The Raw Truck Driver :) You can see that HERE:

There are many more wonderful events lined up on the schedule for the coming two weeks here: zip-lining, horse riding, talks, an "Anchor The Dream" experience with Laura Fox, women's song circle, raw chocolate parties, hikes, a traditional dance show, handicraft tours and more...it's not too late to come down and join us all :) You can see the line-up of events on the http://rawinecuador.ning.com
site...many people seem excited to repeat the gathering next year too,
so if you aren't able to be here with us this year, perhaps we'll all
converge here again in 2011...let's see how it unfolds... :)
RawReform Giveaway: WIN "SuperCharge Me" DVD :)
OoOOOooo, we've got a wonderful giveaway gift for you again this month, courtesy of the ever-lovely si*star* of raw, Jenna Norwood. We have a copy of Jenna's entertaining and educational "Supercharge Me" DVD up for grabs - YAY :)
I love Jenna - she made a raw food version of Morgan Spurlock's "SuperSize Me" documentary - with Jenna eating RAW for 30 days, instead of McD's ;) You can read all about Jenna's DVD HERE and if *you* would love to be in with a chance of winning the giveaway copy, just send in your answer to the following question:
"If you were to live on just one raw food for 30 days,
which food would you choose and why...?"
Send your answers in to

Winner of our DVD: Raw Food Transformations CONGRATULATIONS to Courtney G in Pennsylvannia, who was chosen today as the yummy winner of last month's RawReform Giveaway Contest :) A shiny new copy of our "Raw Food Transformations" DVD is now winging its way to Courtney, who sent in the following answer to the question: "Which raw foods do you take with you when you're travelling...?":
"Whenever I travel I keep a trail mix with me with almonds, raisins, pumpkin seeds, etc. - and usually some dried mango and/or dried pineapple, too. Then, of course, I love to keep a couple fresh apples
in the bag they are just the perfect size for a quick meal. (This is
especially true now that Im pregnant I want to make sure that Im
reaching for the best food I can) :)
Thanks for doing all that you do. Keep up the amazing work!
All my best,
Courtney"
Thanks for sharing, Courtney - we trust that you enjoy the DVD and wish you all the very best with your pregnancy :) ...and thanks indeed to ALL of you who sent in your answers to this contest - I do believe this was the biggest response to a contest we've ever seen - see the next section below for more of your wonderful responses and suggestions about travelling raw... ;)
YOUR Raw Travel Tips...
WELL...the response to last month's RawReform Giceaway Contest was *huge* - we asked you to tell us which raw foods you take with you when you're travelling...here are ten of the inspiring responses:
*My
significant other and I go to a lot of festivals in the summer and
usually "carnival" foods are the only thing available. So before our
trips I blend a ton of green smoothies and freeze them. That way I don't have to worry about making a thing all weekend!
Danielle P
*Well....I'm
a single mommie of a kiddo with Autism and Chiari ( a brain
disease/disorder). Packing quick and traveling light are A MUST! When
the traveling includes time in the car----I keep a cute cooler in my trunk. I only have to stop and grab a bag of ice or throw my frozen gel packs in. I make up a few quarts of smoothie to hit the road with ....super easy simple green smoothies. I keep a stash of "balls" in my fridge. Most have simple superfoods in em. I also grab 2 avocados
in case we hit a restaurant where I can get a HUGE pasta bowl filled
only with salad and any raw veggies they have. Slice on my avocado,
pour lemon juice on top (from the small plate of lemons that I ask for)
and voila'....lunch/dinner is served.
If the traveling is by plane--- I find airports that have juice bars
and I book my layover through those airports where possible. Otherwise,
the same is true---2 avocados for my bag...and a container full of
balls. Small container of maca/spirulina mix...and I'm ready to go!!!!!
The simpler, the better for traveling!
In light and love,
Jayna'

*When travelling, I bring:
Goji berries, cacao nibs, cacao beans, raw bars, phytoplankton, ormus gold and Adya clarity.
Thanks,
Olof O
*I always take raw crackers, bread and sometimes a nut-pate, depending how far I'm traveling. I like Lara bars for their ease of travel, plus bags of raw almonds, hemp protein and spirulina powder!

*1. Granolaformed into little granola cookiesno need to carry milk
2. Sprou ting bagalready starting to sproutjust rinse daily, and fresh sprouts at your fingertips
3. Trail mixof course!
4. Fruit that lasts: grapes, tangerines, Clementines, apples.
5. My blendtec
first
time for this one! Im in a car, so well see
just put it in a box
with handles, add a huge thermal bag with a bunch of greens, etc.,,
and a Thermos bottle. Drink half at breakfast, the other half for
lunch from the Thermos. (I have Thermos with a sippy straw built in.)
Happy travels,
Madeline W
*One of my favorite things to bring while traveling is sprouts. Especially lentil sprouts. I just bring the lentils
with me and as soon as I get to my destination I start the overnight
soaking. By the next day I've got sprouts starting and I stagger them
with another batch starting. I can add them to a regular salad or make
a salad with the sprouts as the base or use them as a filling with
avocado in a romaine lettuce roll with a simple dressing. And I never
leave home with out my water bottle, Vitamineral Greens and Stevia drops.
Thanks for all you do to support healthy living!

*When I go traveling, I find it is easiest and the most fun to keep things whole and simple. Fruits,
like citrus and bananas, that come with their own naturally wonderful
"packaging" are a favorite. Of course, I like to have some green powder along with me, too, so my greens are just a glass of water away...
Thank you and lots of love.

*1) Seaweed: dulse and spirulina
2) Marine phytoplankton
3) Alfafa seeds to sprout in a bag
4) home made crackers
5) a variety of seeds and nuts (almonds, sunflowers and cashew etc)
6) a mix of cacao and goji berries
Diane
*Raw on the Run
If I'm not going too far on my own little pins
Seeds and sultanas is my choice that wins
For journeys nearby, whose hours are just short
apples and oranges do what they ought
If time drags on and it feels like a day
I pack up some veg and make food on the way
For those desperate times in planes and going far
Start with a green juice in disposable jar.
To keep up my energy a handful of dates,
when clearing customs through invisible gates.
and at 30,000 feet and it is getting late
I just give in and eat raw chocolate!
