Angela Stokes, 27, was dangerously overweight at 21 stone and needed an extreme solution to help get her life back on track. She tells Adrian Lee how she shed 11-and-a-half stone.
'"I was morbidly obese" says Angela, now 27, who gained a stone in
weight every year between the ages of 16 and 21. "My parents took me to
doctors and nutritionists but I didn't want to listen. I was killing
myself through food."'
'Four years ago, Angela finally began to listen after she was sent for
tests for diabetes. They proved negative but she was told it was only a
matter of time before she became diabetic and was likley to develop
other life-threatening conditions, including heart disease. Her liver
was also being put under strain.'
' "My original motivation was simply to lose weight", says Angela. 'As
I ate more raw food, my general health quickly improved. I always used
to be ill with flu or viruses but now I can't remember the last time I
had a cold."'
'She believes the nation could benefit by eating more raw food. "We
have an obesity epidemic and the first generation of young people who
will die before their paretns because of poor diet", she says. "It
really worries me when I see what children eat. It's possible to have a
varied, balanced diet which is at least 50 per cent raw food."'
